Finance guru salutes Man City as ‘great move’ on the cards

Man City will make a lot of money if they continue to provide top-drawer care for their young players out on loan.

That is the view of data expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and statistical analysis.

As reported by iNews last Thursday (23 June), City are looking to recruit a new injury management chief to oversee their loan department.

The new staff member will oversee players’ sleep, nutrition and well-being as well as conventional injury analysis and prevention.

City have farmed rising stars at an astonishing rate in recent years, with the likes of Phil Foden, Cope Palmer and Liam Delap among recent academy graduates.

Dinnery explains why providing first-rate care for young players out on loan will prove lucrative for City in the long run.

“At the end of the day, they are a business and these players are commodities,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“They don’t necessarily have to progress through to the first team to make a lot of money for the club. I think it’s a great move. Why would you not want to protect that investment?

“It’s easy to forget that for many of these young players out on loan, it is their first time away from home. They need to be protected.

You need to maintain that link. They don’t want to be isolated in a strange place away from home. You want to promote that multi-disciplined approach to ensure that players are reaching their goals.

“Even if they don’t have a career at City, this stands them in good stead to carry on throughout the remainder of their career.”
