Man City news: Finance guru ‘wowed’ as new takeover deal on the cards – ‘never seen this before’

Man City overlords City Football Group are looking to expand further in Europe with a business model “we have never seen before.”

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about CFG’s growth plans.

The multi-club network’s European arm owns Belgian side Lommel SK, French outfit Troyes and Spanish club Girona as well as City in England.

Per The Sun last Monday (14 March), they now want to make Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda their 11th club worldwide.

The conglomerate’s ownership model is unprecedented and this latest move is indicative of their growing influence on the continent, claims Plumley.

“This is another example of the power of what they can do,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“European football is still the market leader. It makes sense that they are targeting a big presence there.

“There is a good catchment area there, with leagues that are well developed.

“But, wow, City have this model of club ownership that we have never seen before. Others are trying to play catch-up now.

“That means they have been in pole position to hoover up those clubs in Europe.

“They have all these operations going on around the globe, but it makes sense for them to be dominant in Europe as well.”

City have sent the likes of Angelino and Manu Garcia to Breda on loan in recent years.

City Football Group recorded a loss of £71million in their recent set of annual accounts.
