‘Man City set for Kyle Walker rethink after agreed Everton deal’

Kyle Walker may have to rethink his transfer plans after Everton moved closer to signing a new right back.

The 35-year-old was loaned to AC Milan in the January transfer window and is deemed surplus to requirements at City.

Pep Guardiola did not select the England international for the Club World Cup prompting Walker to look elsewhere for playing time.

Walker was selected for Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, but knows that sitting on the bench at City will not see him selected for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, America and Mexico.

Tete deal denies Walker Everton move

The Sun reported that Walker was set to move to Everton, but The Athletic report the Toffees are now close to signing Fulham defender Kenny Tete on a free transfer.

Tete’s contract runs out at the end of the month, so he is free to leave West London.

The 29-year-old has 14 caps for the Netherlands and played 22 times in the Premier League for the Cottagers last season.

Tete’s Fulham record

David Moyes requires a new full back this summer with Ashley Young moving on when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Tete’s arrival would mean plenty of competition at right-back with Jake O’Brien, Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman, who has been offered a new deal, fighting out with the Dutchman for that position.

Coleman’s and Patterson’s injury records though means Moyes needs plenty of cover in that department.

Walker wages an issue as he searches for summer move

Walker only has one year remaining on his City deal, but his wages could have been seen as a major stumbling block for Everton.

The six-time Premier League champion may now have reevaluate his options, with a move abroad perhaps the most likely destination.

Tete is a younger and cheaper alternative than Walker and perhaps that is what has swayed Moyes’ decision.

Walker will not want to move to Merseyside to sit on the bench in a World Cup year.

Fulham were interested in signing Walker this summer, but it was again his wage demands that put Marco Silva’s side off.

Silva will need to dip into the market though for a new right back with Tete departing.
