Finance guru ‘wowed’ by money-spinning Man City reveal
Man City have a “striking” number of overseas fans and will see revenue skyrocket if they continue to cater for them.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent remarks made by City marketing guru Nuria Tarre.
Tarre’s role at City Football Group is to head up the department responsible for brand growth on a global scale.

As quoted by the Daily Mail last Sunday (29 May), she revealed that the club’s in-house data shows that just one per cent of City’s fanbase lives in the United Kingdom.
City were world football’s biggest earners in 2020-21 with nearly £570m worth of revenue, and their sponsor portfolio is replete with both global and regional partnerships.
Plumley emphasised just how vital it is for City’s business operation to monetise their worldwide following.
“We tend to be quite insular in football,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“But when you really take a look at the worldwide numbers, you think wow, that is quite striking. Clubs like City know they have got more followers and fans overseas than they do here in the UK.
“A lot of what they are trying to do now is to monetise them. That is easier now because we live in a more digital world.”

Analysis from Brand Directory has found that City have the second-most valuable brand in world football.
Their reputation was bolstered by winning the Premier League for the fourth time in five years in 2021-22.
