‘Man City spending not over’ as boardroom source analyses PSR numbers
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Man City can continue spending this summer despite a £180million January outlay.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs and their boards – came to that conclusion after analysing City’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) situation over a three-year window.
Man City spent around £180million on transfer fees in the most recent transfer window on first-team quartet Nico Gonzalez, Omar Marmoush, Victor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov.
Kyle Walker was allowed to leave the club to AC Milan on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for the Italian side.
Pep Guardiola’s side decided to spend big after struggles in the Premier League and Champions League so far in the 2024-25 campaign.
The English champions sit fifth in the top flight and will need to come through a two-legged tie with Real Madrid to reach the last 16 in Europe.
‘Many pounds to be spent in this summer’ at Man City, says Wyness
Wyness insisted he expects more sales and more incomings in the summer ahead.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve looked at City over the last three years, which is the PSR window, and they have done very well.
“They’ve sold players that you almost forget about – Zinchenko, etc. It gives them a lot of breathing room, and they still have that room even after January.
“I still expect more sales in the summer. They’ve been very good at trading, and they’ve had the bonus of going far in European competitions.

“Adding that together, the club has done well financially. They’ve been almost a model.
“They’ve got room and there are still many pounds to be spent in this summer.”
