Man City ‘sure’ to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko replacement after latest – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed “ruthless” Man City are “sure” to dip into the transfer market this summer to secure an upgrade on Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old could find himself replaced with Pep Guardiola sure to be dissatisfied with how the season has transpired.

Zinchenko, who has made 10 Premier League starts this term, has played back-up to natural right-back Joao Cancelo in the left-back berth this term.

As per the Daily Mail (17 May), Man City are targeting a £30million move for Brighton’s Spain international Marc Cucurella, 23, ahead of the summer window.

The report also claims Guardiola is in the market for a central midfielder.

Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan are set to depart the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

Whelan insisted Man City will “waste no time” in getting their business concluded during the off-season.

“I quite like Zinchenko, but big clubs will never relax in the transfer market,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“That’s the thing that sets them apart. If they see someone out there who they want, they are not afraid to go out and get it done. They’re ruthless.

“We’ve seen Haaland come in. We know Fernandinho needs replacing. I’m sure they’ll waste no time doing that either.

“There’ll be a lot of new faces.

“They’ll be expecting more trophies. They won’t be happy with this season, so they’ll be looking to bolster their options.

“The demands on that full-back role are huge and you need to be box-to-box.

“We’ve seen big injuries in those areas this year, so there’ll be strengthening – I’m sure.”
