Man City tipped to sign Gabriel Jesus replacement as talks reported – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Man City could allow Gabriel Jesus to leave this summer so long as they sign an upgrade.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Erling Haaland’s prospective arrival could see Jesus, 25, allowed to leave.

As reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein (22 April), Arsenal have held talks with the Brazilian’s representatives over a potential move, with the striker out of contract in 2023.

The same outlet (19 April) claim Haaland, 21, has given a move to City the green light, with personal terms reportedly agreed.

Hutton suggested City could cash in on Jesus so long as they bring in an upgrade.

Discussing a potential move for the Brazil star, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Everybody will know what he’s all about. I do kind of like him when he plays off the wide position. He gets involved in games.

“Scoring four goals, it’s against Watford, fine, but you still have to put the ball in the net.

“There’s been some talk about could he be going to Arsenal, somewhere like that. Talk that other teams are in talks with him.

“If you get that opportunity to go and shine, that is exactly what he has done. He has put his name out there, everybody’s talking about him.

“There’s always room to change the manager’s mind but it just depends how he sees the team looking moving forward. Do they bring Haaland in?

“Sterling, Grealish, Foden – these boys can play out wide. There are so many options and it just depends how he sees things moving forward.

“They’ve got one of the strongest squads in the league, if not the strongest. They might be thinking: ‘Yeah, we can allow him to leave.’

“That is as long as they replace him with what they see as a better all-round footballer.”
