Finance guru tips Man City to strike new deal amid double-your-money Erling Haaland reveal
Man City can use Erling Haaland’s commercial appeal to secure an improved kit deal when the current agreement with Puma is up for renegotiation.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Norwegian’s seismic impact on and off the pitch for City.
The 22-year-old did not find the back of the net in last Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Liverpool but has netted a remarkable 20 times in 14 appearances since his move from Borussia Dortmund.

As relayed by The i last Friday (14 October), his arrival has led directly to a 101 per cent upswing in shirt sales.
City’s parent company City Football Group struck a £65m-a-year deal with Puma in 2019 that covers their 12-team empire, although most of the cash goes directly to the East Manchester club.
Plumley suggests that they will use shirt sale figures to barter for an upswing on that figure in the future.
“We have to be aware that sales of the shirt itself are not the main driver of money for Man City,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Most of that goes to the kit providers. Some clubs have different percentage deals but it doesn’t shift the dial too much for City.
“But the wider significance is linked to potential negotiations for future shirt sales and packages, extended commercial rights and benefits that come with the association with Haaland’s brand.

“It will be significant in wider terms for City, although the extra shirt sales will be negligible in terms of their overall income.
“But bigger picture, the exposure that Haaland generates for the club will be what City are looking at in the long term.“
