Kieran Maguire: Man City ready to abandon 114-year-old tradition amid ‘big’ news
Man City would likely turn their noses up at the chance to participate in a reformed Community Shield.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possible abolition of the annual meeting of Premier League and FA Cup champions.
Man City were beaten by Liverpool in this season’s iteration of the competition, which was founded in 1908 and has been won six times by City.

The Times reported on Tuesday (18 October) that England’s biggest clubs want to make major changes to the season curtain-raiser.
It is claimed that they are arguing for the match to be played overseason, replaced with an all-star game, or scrapped entirely.
Maguire suggests that the latter option is most likely, with a pre-season mini-tournament to replace the Community Shield.
But the spreadsheet expert does not believe that City will be keen to participate.
“I suspect the Community Shielf is more likely to be replaced rather than moved overseas,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The Premier League do want to increase interest and revenues from some form of what they describe as a meaningful overseas contest.
“However, it has to be said that this competition is not likely to regularly have many of the Big Six.
“They believe they can make far more money from their own bespoke tours with individual promoters.”

City have featured in four of the last five Community Shield matches.
Their first appearance came back in 1934.
