‘Man City to agree mega-money Rodri deal after Real Madrid swoop’

Manchester City star Rodri could be set to clear up his future at the Etihad following interest from Real Madrid.

The Spain international missed the majority of the latest campaign after suffering a serious knee ligament injury against Arsenal last September.

The 28-year-old made an emotional comeback ahead of schedule in Man City’s victory over Bournemouth last month.

Pep Guardiola’s side failed to retain their Premier League title for a fifth year in a row without Rodri in their midfield, having finished third in the table.

However, the Ballon d’Or winner is likely to play an integral role at the upcoming Club World Cup, which starts on 15 June and ends on 13 July.

Man City will face Moroccan side Wydad AC in their first game of the 32-competition in the US on 18 June.

Rodri to agree £60m deal after Man City talks revealed

Rodri has been in talks over a new contract for the best part of the past year as Etihad chiefs look to tie down his future.

Real Madrid have held a long-term interest in the midfielder following his performances in the Premier League and for Spain.

Football Insider revealed on 25 April Man City would offer Rodri a new deal to deter interest from the La Liga giants this summer, with his contract set to expire in 2027.

The Mirror reported on 31 May Rodri is now expected to sign a new deal at the Etihad until 2029.

The newspaper said the Spaniard currently earns £200,000 a week, but his new deal will be worth more than £300,000 a week.

That would make him the second-highest earner behind Erling Haaland, who is believed to be on more than £500,000 a week.

It will come as a huge boost to tie Rodri down for the next four years after his importance to Guardiola’s side has been there for all to see this season.

The midfielder previously went 74 games without suffering defeat with Man City before their FA Cup final loss against Manchester United in May last year.

Man City close on multiple new signings

Man City have agreed a deal to sign Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan as they look to strengthen their midfield options this summer.

Meanwhile, Lyon forward Rayan Cherki and Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri are also expected to join the 10-time English champions.

Man City are keen to revamp their squad before the Club World Cup gets underway next weekend.
