Man City to explore January forward signing after Erling Haaland twist – O’Rourke
Man City will explore the signing of a new forward in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The champions will not hesitate to add a new striker option to their thin squad in the new year if the right option becomes available.
Erling Haaland is the club’s only natural forward following the sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in the off-season.
Alvarez was reluctantly sold to the Spanish club for a reported fee of almost £82million – a figure which was too good to turn down for City chiefs.
However, Haaland has struggled in recent months at City – scoring just one goal in the last six Premier League games.
Sources say the club are not concerned about the Norway international’s lean spell, instead believing that a lack of consistent service is the biggest factor behind his lack of goals.
Man City could move for Haaland understudy in January
Nevertheless, Pep Guardiola will get the opportunity to draft in some help for Haaland if his transfer team can find the right deal for the club in January.
Haaland remains the club’s top goalscorer in the 2024-25 campaign with 18 strikes in 24 appearances across all competitions.
But second in the list are Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden with four goals each as previously free-scoring City struggle to find top form in the 2024-25 season.

Guardiola’s side sit seventh in the Premier League table – behind the likes of Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.
Man City, who are already 12 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, are next in action against Everton and Leicester.
