Kieran Maguire: Man City poised to strike multiple new deals amid ‘best on the planet’ claim

Man City can use their latest commercial partnership with Jio as a springboard to sign multiple new deals in the Indian market.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about City’s agreement with the OTT streaming company.

It was announced on Thursday (5 January) that the firm, which is described as India’s leading digital services brand, had come on board as a partner.

Jio will collaborate with City’s media department on content ventures across the company’s digital ecosystem, which encompasses the second-largest OTT platform in the world.

City Football Group, the conglomerate which owns Man City, has a controlling stake in Mumbai City, who are undefeated in the Indian Super League this term.

Maguire claims that the Jio partnership can help unlock more doors in the local market and lead to more commercial deals in India further down the line.

City Football Group want to extend and expand the brand of the most successful multi-club organisation on the planet,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

A market as significant as the Indian subcontinent is showing an increased interest in football despite having had little success on the international stage.

“City can leverage on that interest and get more eyeballs on their brand. More attention for the brand can then have a knock-on effect in terms of what they can do in the commercial department.

The club can potentially negotiate further deals with local deals and suppliers in India itself off the back of that.

“You can see why this is an avenue they are keen to explore, not only in India but around the world as well.”
