Man City ‘absolutely desperate’ to agree ‘huge-money’ deal after source’s Pep Guardiola reveal today – pundit

Alan Hutton has told Man City to give Pep Guardiola “what he wants” to tie him down amid doubts over his future at the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Guardiola won’t be happy until he wins the Champions League with the Sky Blues.

The 51-year-old’s deal expires next summer and he has repeatedly dismissed media questions about whether it is going to be extended.

A City source has told Football Insider the club are happy to pay “huge money” to extend Guardiola’s deal, with talks lined up during the World Cup.

As quoted by the Independent (7 November), the City boss said the players and fans give him “energy for the future” and insisted he has to “be there with them”.

Star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne said it would be easier for Guardiola to stay at the Etihad and insisted the boss is “calm” about his future.

When asked how important it will be for the Citizens to tie him down, Hutton told Football Insider: “Just give him what he wants.

You can see what he has done. The Champions League is the holy grail, that is what they are searching for and that is what they want.

I do not think he will be happy until he wins that. He has done an incredible job. He is one of the best managers in the world, if not the best. Why would you not want to keep him at the club?

He just keeps churning it out. He keeps changing the squad in little bits and all of a sudden it all just clicks. They are unbelievable.

They will be absolutely desperate to keep hold of him. He is the main man at the club and there is no doubt they will want to tie him down long term.
