Man City ‘upset’ by officials as controversial Erling Haaland picture analysed – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed the decision to disallow Man City winger Phil Foden’s goal against Liverpool was “subjective”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said the decision was “annoying” given the manner in which the game was officiated.

As pictured by Sky Sports (16 October), Foden’s second-half strike was disallowed after VAR adjudged Erling Haaland to have fouled Fabinho in the build-up.

City went on to lose 1-0 to the Reds.

Hutton said that the Sky Blues are right to be annoyed with the decision.

It always comes back to the word subjective,” he told Football Insider.

It depends who is looking at it. For me, if you were to give a foul for that, you are giving probably 100 fouls a game because there is always tugs on shirts. There is always a little grab or a little pull here and there. It always happens.

The thing with this one is that it leads to a goal and that is why VAR are always going to check it. He does tug on Fabinho’s shirt, if he does not do that does he get there and kick the ball away?

Man City

These are all things that are going through VAR when they are looking at it. I understand why it is given.

Today in football those sort of things are given with VAR, I do not think it is ideal. The manager was upset because the referee let a lot of fouls go during the game and then that one gets pulled up. It can be annoying.
