Man City v Premier League: Stefan Borson shares intriguing new details

Manchester City may have to wait up to three months before they hear back about their associated party transactions (APT) case against the Premier League.

That is the view of former Man City financial advisor Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it’s likely to be between one and three months before the panel reveals its decision due to the complexity of the matter.

The English champions have taken legal action against the Premier League over the APT rules, with the club claiming the regulations are “unlawful”.

If the rules weren’t in place, clubs could agree sponsorship deals as high as they wanted with no challenge, increasing the amount they could spend under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

The first part of the case was due to come to an end last week after an arbitration hearing was set for between 10-21 June.

Man City case to have second part if initial argument successful

Borson revealed a verdict could be made quicker if the panel works exclusively on the situation and is in a hurry to share its decision.

“This is the first part of the case to establish whether the rules are lawful,” Borson told Football Insider.

“If City win, there will be a second part where they look at if they have got any loss, so that will probably come afterwards.

“I would think you’re probably looking at between one and three months before we get a decision because of the nature of the matter.

“I assume it was very technical and that will probably mean the panel will want proper time to consider its legal response.

“It won’t be available in all likelihood to challenge the decision, so it may mean that they are a bit more relaxed about the decision that they have come to, which might make it a bit quicker.

“One to three months is what I would be guiding. But you never know, it may be that they’ve got an agreement that the panel will work exclusively on the situation because they’re in a hurry.

“The standard would be one to three months for something like this.”
