Man City v Premier League: Stefan Borson shares significant update today

Manchester City are yet to receive a decision in their associated party transactions (APT) case against the Premier League following the publishing of next season’s handbook.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the governing body likely ran out of time before it had to publish the new handbook for the upcoming campaign, meaning there were no changes to disciplinary or arbitration included.

Man City and the Premier League clashed over the APT rules in June during a two-week hearing.

The English champions questioned the legality of the APT rules, branding them “anti-competitive” – and sued the governing body for damages.

A verdict has so far not been announced and the relevant rules remained unchanged following the publishing of the Premier League handbook for the 2024-25 campaign on 25 July.

Premier League can changes rules at any time after Man City case

Borson revealed the Premier League can change the APT rules at any time once a decision is reached as Man City continue to wait to hear if their case has been successful.

He told Football Insider: “My information when it came out was that there hadn’t been a decision.

“We will have to see how it pans out. They can change the rules at any time.

“I think they ran out of time for the publication of this season’s handbook as it was.

“Ideally, they would have wanted the result of that hearing before they had to publish this season’s handbook.

“But clearly, with only three weeks to go until the season starts, they needed to get it out.

“There were very few changes in there overall, so there are no changes at all to the rules related to disciplinary or arbitration.

“The only thing we know is that, as of last week, they hadn’t had a decision.”
