Man City victims of injustice as Erling Haaland footage analysed – Hutton

Alan Hutton has claimed Man City should have been awarded a penalty against Brighton on Saturday (22 October).

But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said that the officials may have thought Erling Haaland lost control of the ball as a reason for waving away the penalty shouts.

As shown on the club’s YouTube channel (24 October) Haaland was tripped by Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez inside the penalty area.

Referee Craig Pawson did not deem the challenge worthy a spot kick and VAR official Lee Mason stuck with the onfield decision.

Pep Guardiola’s side went on to win the game 3-1.

When asked for his assessment of the decision, Hutton told Football Insider: “It would take me a few times to see it.

I would say it is a penalty. The only reason they would not give it is if they think he does not have the ball under control.

At the end of the day if you take the ball by the goalkeeper and he takes you out in the ankle it should be a penalty.

From one of the angles you can absolutely see that he has clipped his heel. The only thing I could think as to why they would not give it is if he did not have the ball under control but it looks like a penalty to me.

The Sky Blues are second in the Premier League table with 26 points from 11 games.

They are two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
