Man City victims of major injustice as Marcus Rashford footage analysed – pundit

Alan Hutton was shocked by the decision to allow Bruno Fernandes’ goal against Man City to stand.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender insisted Marcus Rashford interfered with the play in the lead up to the goal.

As shown on BT Sport (14 January), United’s equaliser against Man City was awarded despite linesman Darren Cann initially raising his flag for offside against Rashford.

The forward appeared to influence the City defenders, with Manuel Akanji stepping back to ensure Rashford was offside when the ball was played.

Rashford eventually left the ball for Fernandes who curled it past Ederson.

Erik ten Hag’s side went on to win the game 2-1.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Akanji said the decision to allow Fernandes’ goal to stand was “a joke”.

When asked for his assessment of the incident, Hutton told Football Insider:It is offside all day for me.

My initial reaction was that Akanji plays him offside. Right away he has affected the play. The linesman actually puts the flag up and then puts it down.

Man City

The ball runs along the side of Rashford so he is in the way. The goalkeeper comes out, closes down the angle as if Rashford was going to take the shot. He influences the goalkeeper, Akanji and I think it was Kyle Walker at the time.

Last second Fernandes comes in and he moves out the way. He is totally interfering with play, I do not understand it. It is a very strange decision but I am sure Man United will take it.
