Man City must pay ‘£100m’ to lure Branthwaite from Everton – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City would need to pay £100million after add-ons to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the 22-year-old is the “best young defender of a generation”.
According to The Sun (30 June), Man City are ready to join the race for Branthwaite after hijacking Man United’s interest – but Everton are no longer under pressure to sell.
Football Insider revealed last month (17 June) that United have already seen a bid of £35million plus add-ons rejected by the Merseyside club.
Branthwaite signed a fresh contract at Goodison Park in October 2023, which keeps him at the club until June 2027.
He was an ever-present for Sean Dyche’s side last term as they avoided relegation and has recently made his senior England debut.
Everton would ‘grudgingly’ accept ‘£100m’ Branthwaite bid from Man City, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Even months ago, I said Branthwaite is worth £100million.
“I think he’s the best young defender of a generation. Generational talents don’t come cheap.
“I think he’d do very well at Man City, he’d respond very well to Pep Guardiola – who can see that he is a genuinely gifted athlete, as well as quality off the pitch.
“Everton fans have accepted he could go, but they won’t accept the ridiculous £35million bid from Man United.

“Anything north of £75million, there would be a grudging acceptance. City would be a great home for him as a player.
“If it was something like £75million plus add-ons to take it to £100million, then that could be accepted.”
