Man City will not win the Premier League if they don’t change this Erling Haaland stat
Erling Haaland is the bookies’ favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award this season, but he will be limited to individual honours if he doesn’t receive more help from his Manchester City teammates.
Haaland has started a campaign in blistering form once again, scoring nine times in just seven Premier League games this season.
It’s the third-most goals a player has scored at this stage of a campaign in the competition’s history, and Haaland makes up each of the top three spots.
He netted 14 times after seven games in 2022-23, and 10 times last season at this point of the season.

Haaland is already on track for yet another Premier League record, outscoring nine entire teams so far this campaign, while equalling the scoring totals of both Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
Thanks to five goals in three games across the month, Haaland was awarded the Premier League’s player of the month award for September on Friday.
It was the fourth time he has won the award, putting him level with the likes of Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer.
Erling Haaland needs more help from his teammates
Man City have scored 15 goals this season, which means Haaland has scored 60 per cent of their goals. If you exclude own goals, that figure rises to nearly 70 per cent.
Astonishingly, no other Man City player has scored more than once in the Premier League this season, with Matheus Nunes, Phil Foden, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki all netting once each.

In fact, the player Haaland has received the most help from this season is Burnley centre-back Maxime Esteve, who scored two own goals in City’s favour when his side lost 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium last month.
That unfortunate double makes Esteve City’s second highest scorer in the Premier League this season.
Haaland has now scored 94 goals in the Premier League in just 104 appearances, and the Norwegian is closing in the record for fewest games needed to a reach a century of goals in the competition.
The record is currently held by the competition’s all-time top scorer, Shearer, who reached a century in his 124th appearance.
Shearer recently praised Haaland, labelling him a ‘beast’ after his display against Brentford on October 5.
Man City have scored 277 goals in the top-flight since Haaland joined, meaning he has scored more than a third of the club’s total goals in the competition since his debut.
Premier League since 2022-23 | Team | Goals | Team Goals | Percentage |
Erling Haaland | Man City | 94 | 277 | 34% |
Ollie Watkins | Aston Villa | 51 | 191 | 27% |
Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | 68 | 260 | 26% |
Jarrod Bowen | West Ham | 38 | 154 | 25% |
Chris Wood | Nottingham Forest | 37 | 150 | 25% |
No other team has been as reliant on one player’s goals as Man City have with Haaland since his debut, with Ollie Watkins closest, scoring 27 per cent of Aston Villa‘s goals since 2022-23.
No historical precedent for a title-winning team
Haaland’s rate so far this season of scoring 60 per cent of City’s goals has never been matched by a player for a team who lifted the Premier League title that season.
The record to date is held by Shearer, who scored 43 per cent of Blackburn Rovers‘ goals when they won the Premier League in 1994-95.

Henry is next, scoring 41 percent of Arsenal‘s goals in their Invincibles season in 2003-04.
Cristiano Ronaldo (39%, 2007-08), Haaland himself (38%, 2022-23) and Jamie Vardy (35%, 2015-16) fill out the rest of the top five.
