Man United 21-y/o who ripped it up in Scotland is perfect Celtic solution to problem area

COMMENT

Celtic have had a problem finding a left-back to provide competition to Kieran Tierney for around a season.

Ever since Emilio Izaguirre left the club, the likes of Calvin Miller and Callum McGregor have had to fill in, which is ridiculous as neither of them are natural left-backs.

However, a player has now become available who seems like an ideal candidate to fill in the left-back role when Tierney is not available – Demetri Mitchell.

The 21-year-old Manchester United prospect spent the second-half of last season on loan at Hearts, and he was excellent for the Tynecastle club.

He made 11 appearances for Craig Levein’s side and even more importantly for Hearts fans, was named man of the match in a Scottish Cup win over bitter rivals Hibernian.

Now he has returned to Manchester, and being honest, the prospects of him ever playing for the Old Trafford club are very slim.

Which is why Brendan Rodgers should swoop in and make the player one of his first signings of the summer.

He won’t need to get used to playing in Scotland, like is sometimes a problem for new signings, and will be used to the rough and tumble nature of the Scottish Premiership.

Most importantly though, there will be two natural left-backs at the club, which is a situation which should have been resolved a long time ago.

It is better late than never though, and the signing of Mitchell seems like a smart move for next season.
