Man United aim dig at Arsenal in one-word social media message
Man United have seemingly aimed a subtle dig at Arsenal after the penalty incident in their FA Cup penalty win over the North London club on Sunday (January 12).
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for the visitors in the 52nd minute with a lovely curling effort from a storming run from Alejandro Garnacho.
United’s joy was shortlived, however, with Diogo Dalot picking up a second yellow card following a rash challenge on Mikel Merino.
Gabriel bagged the equaliser just two minutes after United were reduced to ten men, scoring on the half-volley after both Altay Bayindir and Kobbie Mainoo failed to deal with Gabriel Martinelli’s cross.
Arsenal were given the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot after a controversial incident involving Kai Havertz and Harry Maguire.
The German striker appeared to go down a little too easy, sparking outrage amongst the Man United players and causing a mass brawl between the two sets of players.
Maguire was visibly infuriated by Havertz’s apparent ease in going to ground, with television replays capturing the United defender shouting, “You cheating s***house,” at the Arsenal forward.
Thankfully for the England international, Bayindir had more than enough to save Martin Odegaard’s tame effort, diving to the bottom left and comfortably saving.
After full-time, the score remained 1-1. Extra time came and went, and the game went to penalties, ending 3-5 to Man United, with Kai Havertz missing the only spot-kick.
Man United celebrate ‘justice’ after knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup
Ruben Amorim’s side will face former interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy and his Leicester City side in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
After the win over Arsenal, Man United’s official X, formally known as Twitter, account sent a dramatic one-word message.
The Times’ Martyn Ziegler has since said: “FA will NOT be taking disciplinary action against Man Utd over this tweet following FA Cup win over Arsenal.”
United will be hoping the win over Arsenal will translate to the Premier League as they currently sit in 13th with six wins, five draws, nine defeats, and 23 points from their 20 games. Amorim’s side will face bottom-placed Southampton on Thursday (January 16), hoping to end their four-game winless streak.
