Man United man ‘taught a lesson’ as Carragher pours fresh scorn on Solskjaer – pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Man United have been “thrown together with no idea what they’re doing” after their 5-0 “annihilation” against Liverpool.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Red Devils “don’t seem to have an identity” under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Speaking after the historic clash at Old Trafford, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said Man United “need a better manager” in order to compete with the Premier League’s elite clubs.
Liverpool romped to victory with a hattrick from Mohamed Salah, and further strikes from Diogo Jota and Naby Keita.
The Red Devils are now without a league win in four games.
Man United are already six points adrift of their bitter rivals Manchester City, and eight points off leaders Chelsea.
Whelan claimed the Old Trafford side were “taken apart” by the title-chasing Reds, slamming their “work rate”.
“I was listening to Jamie Carragher last night and he hit the nail on the head,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“They’re playing as a team of individuals,
“They looked all over the place defensively, communication wasn’t there, work rate wasn’t there – they don’t seem to have an identity under Solskjaer.
“Man United have some fantastic players but it looks like they were thrown together with no idea what they’re doing.
“They didn’t know whether to press, defending was slack, no closing down, no sprinting . They just got taken apart and Solskjaer was taught a lesson.
“No wonder the fans were bitterly disappointed. I didn’t expect them to win but I didn’t think they’d be totally annihilated.”

Man United were active during the summer window, bringing in superstars Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Red Devils’ next two league games are against Tottenham and Man City.
