Man United are ‘looking for an elite manager’, this is where Oliver Glasner ranks on shortlist
Oliver Glasner has been heavily tipped as a contender to become the next Man United manager as he closes in on his departure from Crystal Palace.
The Austrian announced in January that he would walk away from Selhurst Park in the summer, and the timings lined up perfectly with the Man United job becoming available.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Glasner is no more than an outsider for the role at Old Trafford.
More high-profile names than the Austrian are being considered, the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, despite his proven success in English football with Palace.
Michael Carrick also now ranks higher on their shortlist thanks to his successful interim spell, with many now calling for him to land the job full-time.

Man United to look elsewhere after Oliver Glasner latest
Football Insider revealed in January that Glasner is on Man United’s list of targets to replace Ruben Amorim, thanks to his successful spell at Crystal Palace.
However, developments since then have pushed him down the pecking order, with United preferring to land a big-name appointment if not Carrick.
Alongside names like Nagelsmann and Enrique, they are also eyeing the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Carlo Ancelotti, with their decision still very much up in the air.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Glasner is a frustrated figure at the minute, with the way things have worked out at Crystal Palace.
“Having to sell their best players in the last two windows, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, hasn’t helped.
“But with regard to his chances of the Man United job, he was always an outsider. He’s done a brilliant job at Palace, but United are looking for an elite manager to come in.
“The if Carrick continues his current form, there’s going to be a swell for him to get the job.

“Glasner, we know, has done a really good job at Palace but I don’t think he was ever a front runner for this Manchester United role.
“I think they were looking elsewhere for a new manager as well but you’d probably say Carrick right now is in the driving seat.”
Crystal Palace make Glasner sack decision
Despite speculation about his future ahead of the summer, there was a real possibility that Glasner could have left his post at Selhurst Park earlier than expected.
A 1-1 draw with Zrinjski Mostar last week meant Palace had won just one of their last 16 games in all competitions, while he had also hit out at the fans.
However, Football Insider revealed on 23 February that Crystal Palace will not sack Glasner after making a final decision to let him see out the season.

Since then, the Eagles have picked up back-to-back home wins against Wolves and Mostar, bringing a bit of feel-good back to South London.
After progressing into the next round of the UEFA Conference League, they are hopeful of bringing home more silverware to build on their FA Cup and Community Shield wins.
