Man United backed to announce ‘top-level’ manager after Guardian’s Conte update – pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted Man United should appoint a “top-level” manager in order to progress.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Red Devils need someone who can “organise and educate” their stars.
As reported by the Guardian today (October 25th), Antonio Conte, 52, would be “open” to discussing the possibility of taking over at Man United.
The newspaper also reported that senior players are “questioning” whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can progress the club any further.
The former Cardiff boss took the reins at the club in 2018 but is yet to win a trophy.
Man United slumped to a fourth consecutive league game without a win yesterday after Liverpool thumped the Red Devils 5-0.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Gary Neville branded the seismic result a “monstrous day” for the Old Trafford club – and claimed it will put “enormous pressure” on the board to act on Solskjaer’s future.
Whelan insisted it will be “difficult” for the Norweigan to recover from the Liverpool embarrassment.
“It’s going to be difficult for Ole to come back from this,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“The only way for that team to go forward is by getting in a top-level manager.
“They need someone who can organise and educate these players, even though they’re experienced, they need to be told how to play collectively.
“Yesterday looked like men against boys and it was embarrassing just how unorganised and clueless they were.“

Man United’s next two league games are against Tottenham and Man City.
The Old Trafford club are already six points adrift of their city rivals, with leaders Chelsea clear of the Red Devils by eight points.
