Man United backed to sign ‘top striker’ as Ralf Rangnick leaks transfer plan – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted a “top, young striker” must be high on the list for Man United after Ralf Rangnick revealed ten signings could be possible this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Red Devils must find a successor for Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo in the transfer market.

As quoted by Sky Sports after Man United fell 4-0 away at Liverpool yesterday (19 April), Rangnick revealed “it is clear there will be six, seven, eight, maybe ten new players” coming to Old Trafford this summer.

Marcus Rashford, 24, led the line during the loss with fellow forwards Cavani, 35, and Ronaldo, 37, unavailable.

Whelan insisted incoming boss Erik ten Hag must secure another striker capable of working under the Portugal icon next season.

“They need to go out and get another centre-forward,” he told Football Insider

“Cavani is at the back end of his time at the club. Rashford, Elanga, Sancho, Fernandes – they’re not out-and-out strikers.

“Ronaldo is coming to the end of his career – but who better to learn from for a top, young striker?

“They need someone else who can come in and hold the ball up, score goals, and really occupy that middle third of the pitch.

“It’s a real conundrum for them. They need someone who can come in and take on the task of succeeding Ronaldo when the time comes.”
