Man United branded ‘absolute circus’ after Ralf Rangnick twist – pundit

Ralf Rangnick’s U-turn on taking up a consultancy role at Man United has made the club look “really foolish” and “shambolic”, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, branded the Old Trafford club “an absolute circus” after the latest turn of events.

Man United confirmed on Sunday (29 May) that Rangnick will not take up a planned consultancy position at the club due to the commitments of his role as Austria manager – a job which he took up a month ago.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (27 May) that the German had planned to work just six days a month – netting him a £240,000-a-year salary.

Rangnick’s ill-fated spell as interim boss of the Red Devils came to an end on 22 May.

Former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag will take charge of Man United next season.

Whelan suggested Ten Hag may have orchestrated Rangnick’s departure.

“It’s an absolute circus at Man United,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“All these plans have just been ripped up. Whether it’s because Ten Hag didn’t really want him breathing down his neck, we don’t know.

“It just seems that he wanted to get out as quickly as possible, which seems to be a running theme.

“It’s just disorganisation and shambolic all the way to the top – this whole debacle has made them look really foolish.”

Former RB Leipzig manager Rangnick won just 10 of 24 Premier League games after taking charge in November 2021.
