Man United ‘clear out’ underway as ‘disastrous’ claim made – pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted Man United need “clear out” of the recruitment team after a “disastrous” record in the transfer market.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, stated the Red Devils “got it wrong for so many years”.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News on Wednesday (20 April), a Manchester United spokesperson confirmed Jim Lawlor will step down from his role as chief scout in the summer.

Head of global scouting Marcel Bout has also left Old Trafford after eight years.
News of the duo’s exit came shortly before Ten Hag was appointed as the club’s new permanent manager.
Whelan insisted Lawlor “had to go” after “six years” of failings in the transfer window.
Asked if a shakeup of the recruitment team at Old Trafford was needed, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Oh yeah. They got it wrong for so many years.
“You’re talking six years of transfer that have been disastrous, pretty much. He absolutely had to go. If you’re bringing in a new manager, a new team to work in, a new era, you need to have changes in those areas.
“He had to go whether it was a new manager or not. His job was not successful in the last six years. So absolutely, it’s a new clean slate.
“You can see the clear out happening already. I’m sure Ten Hag will have an idea of somebody else he wants in there as well. Someone that’s going to help him, that he trusts and has been successful for him.”

Lawlor was with Manchester United for 16 years.
Meanwhile, Bout joined the club under Lous van Gaal.
