Man United ‘concerns’ revealed by top source after sponsorship update

Man United will be concerned that their commercial revenue has taken a hit after the club’s recent decline on the pitch.

That is according to former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, who exclusively told Football Insider that they will only be able to attract fans from Asia if they are successful.

The Red Devils have been historically poor in recent seasons, which led them to fail to qualify for Europe in the last campaign.

As a result, Ruben Amorim was sacked at Old Trafford in January, with Michael Carrick now aiming to fix their current on-field issues.

Keith Wyness: Pressure will be on Man United to ensure good commercial revenue

Despite Man United posting a new club record revenue last season, this does not tell the full story.

After the Red Devils failed to win the Europa League and finished 15th in the table, Marriott International – the world’s largest hotel company – decided not to extend its sponsorship deal with the club after it expired at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

On top of this, Man United are also currently without a training kit partner after their Tezos deal, which was worth around £24m a year, came to an end last summer.

As a result, speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes that Carrick’s side are under pressure to deliver to help improve their commercial revenue.

He said: “The commercial revenue is taking a hit. So it should be of concern. I don’t really know what the future is until they get it right on the pitch for them.

“You know, Ed Woodward had always said that actually the two aren’t linked, we can commercially outperform no matter what we’re doing on the pitch.

“I think that’s coming home to roost a little bit now, that United have to start performing again.

“They have to keep that treadmill of producing young fans in Asia, in particular, and that only happens when they’re successful.

“So we’ll see how it goes, but yes, there should be concerns in the commercial department at United, and there should be questions asked, and I know the pressure will be coming from the top over the last month, and they’ll be looking for real measurable targets to be met very soon.”

What are the odds of Man United qualifying for the Champions League?

With Man United already out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, the only real achievement they can realistically oversee is Champions League qualification.

Currently, the Red Devils are on course to achieve this, sitting fourth in the Premier League with 12 games left to play.

As it stands, Opta on 21 February, gives Man United a 29.17 per cent chance of qualifying for the Champions League, with Liverpool tipped to pip them to fourth spot.

However, this percentage is likely to increase over the coming weeks if they can continue their current form, with England all but certain to be awarded a fifth spot for Europe’s most prestigious competition.
