Man United could accept David de Gea offer after journalist’s £18m reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed David de Gea could leave Man United at the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said De Gea is on “huge money” at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old’s contract expires in the summer but the club have the option of a year-long extension.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg (17 December), United have no plans to trigger the shot stopper’s contract extension that would keep him in Manchester for a further 12 months.

The report claims the Spaniard is keen to stay but his current salary is believed to be almost £18million per year.

Hutton suggested now may be the right time for De Gea to be shown the exit door.

I think overall he has been a brilliant servant to the club,” he told Football Insider.

He has been there for such a long time, he has won player of the year, he has been up there. Of course he has had up and down seasons like all footballers do.

“I think overall he has been outstanding.

I know he is one of the highest earners, he is on huge money, maybe they do not feel it is right to continue that contract.

Man United

I am pretty sure De Gea will have options moving forward. As a goalkeeper you can play to any age really.

Maybe he fancies going home or whatever but he has been an unbelievable servant to the club.
