Man United could accept ‘huge’ Bruno Fernandes offer – ‘it’s no secret’

Man United have no plans to sell Bruno Fernandes as things stand despite suggestions he could move on to make way for big-money signings.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Fernandes remains an important part of Ruben Amorim‘s plans.

The Portugal midfielder struggled as Man United lost 1-0 to Everton on 24 November, and has been heavily criticised for his performances.

That comes amid suggestions that Fernandes could be sold to make way for additions after Football Insider revealed Man United are targeting big-name midfielders.

However, while United will be prepared to assess any “huge” offers that arrive for their captain, they currently have no plans to let him leave.

Man United unlikely to push for Bruno Fernandes exit

Brown told Football Insider last month that Man United could accept offers for Fernandes should the right bid arrive amid Saudi Pro League interest.

However, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also spent time with the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa, warned that United would risk weakening their squad if they opted to cash in on the midfielder.

I don’t think it’s something they’re necessarily planning to do,” he told Football Insider.

“But it’s certainly something they will consider and keep an eye on, but it might depend on what happens between now and the end of the season.

“Everybody knows Man United want to strengthen in midfield, it’s no secret, it’s a position the manager feels he needs reinforcements in.

“The question is more about their financial situation, whether they can afford to pay the type of money clubs are asking for when it comes to these players.

“You never know at the moment with United, one minute they’re pleading poverty and the next they’re talking about spending £100million on players.

“Of course, selling Bruno Fernandes would help them raise money to put towards that deal, but then you’re weakening the squad in midfield anyway.

“I don’t think it would make sense to go out of their way to move an important player on, maybe if a huge offer comes in then it’s something they’ll have a look at.

“But at the moment it’s not in their plans to move him on and bring somebody else in, I’m not sure it would make a lot of sense for them in terms of what they need.”

Man United eye top midfield targets in January

Football Insider revealed last month that Man United are desperate to sign a new midfielder when the window opens, with a number of options on their radar.

The likes of Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton are all being tracked by the recruitment team at Old Trafford, while there are other options being considered.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in January that Man United were keeping tabs on Joao Gomes, and that interest has now emerged again.

As a result of the ongoing turmoil at Molineux, a number of “top clubs” in the Premier League and abroad have sent scouts to keep tabs on Gomes’ performances.

This comes as Brown told Football Insider on 30 October that Wolves are concerned about losing star players if they are relegated amid growing interest from rival clubs.
