Man United could appoint ‘big-name’ manager who ticks a lot of boxes, he wants the job
Man United are expected to be interested in hiring Xavi as their new permanent manager in the summer, but he will not be a frontrunner for the job.
United recently appointed Michael Carrick as their new manager until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim’s sacking and Darren Fletcher’s short interim spell at the helm.
Carrick led the Red Devils to a 2-0 win in the Manchester derby in his first game back in the Old Trafford dugout, but his future at the club beyond this season remains uncertain.
Football Insider have revealed that Carrick needs to secure Champions League qualification this season to be considered for the permanent role.
Xavi is known to be keen on taking the United job, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, he is not set to be a favourite to take it in the summer.

Xavi has the credentials to face United but they will explore other options
Barcelona and Spain legend Xavi has been out of management since he was sacked by the Catalan giants in May 2024 after two-and-a-half years in charge.
He led Barca to the 2022-23 La Liga title and made them a genuine force again by promoting youth players and a stricter rules system behind the scenes.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Xavi, he’s a big name and he would fit the bill on a lot of cases with his style of football and everything else.
“With him being free, it probably makes him a more interesting option than maybe other candidates, but I think right now probably United obviously are looking at other managers.
“There are probably other managers ahead of Xavi in the list that they are looking at.”
Xavi has also been linked to being Spurs’ next boss after Thomas Frank
Tottenham are in all kinds of trouble at the wrong end of the table once again this season, with Frank unable to win fans over and potentially facing the sack soon as his side lingers in 14th spot in the Premier League.
Football Insider recently revealed that Spurs will sack Frank soon if their results do not improve with immediate effect, after a run of four league matches without a win.

Xavi has been installed as the favourite to manage Spurs after Frank, and so he could well end up in North London before even having the chance to become United’s new boss.
