Man United could be on verge of game-changing signing as new Harry Kane details emerge – pundit

Frank McAvennie has insisted Man United “need” Harry Kane to compete for trophies.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker claimed United can’t rely on Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to help them win competitions.

As quoted by Sky Sports (7 January), Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag said his side are looking to bring in another striker in January because they can’t rely on Martial, 27, to play every game.

According to ESPN (9 January), Kane is one of Man United’s “priority targets” as they look to capture the signing of a marquee centre-forward in the summer window.

The Tottenham stalwart will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season and this site revealed (7 January) that he is holding back on new contract talks to see how the club develops under Antonio Conte.

McAvennie claimed Kane could be a game-changing signing for the Red Devils.

“Kane is breaking all the records and he has not won anything,” he told Football Insider.

“It is a shame. I do not think Man United are going to win anything but if they had somebody like Kane beside Rashford then they could.

“As long as they do not rely on Martial and Rashford to win things for them because that is not going to happen.

“They are doing very well but throughout the course of a season you need a top striker. Kane is one of them.”
