Man United could block Marcus Rashford transfer after source’s reveal – expert

Marcus Rashford needs to leave Man United for “a new challenge”, according to Noel Whelan.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League striker fears the 24-year-old will not be allowed to leave Old Trafford.

Rashford was a second-half substitute on Saturday as the Red Devils lost further ground in the top four race after a 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

The forward has struggled for game time this season, even though Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani have been sidelined of late.

A source with knowledge of Rashford’s situation told Football Insider (26 March) that the England star has informed those close to him that he is ready to leave Man United this summer.

Rashford wants to reignite his career ahead of this winter’s World Cup.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Russell Edge for his assessment of the situation, Whelan said:

“There is a culture problem there and it is not bringing out the best in the players. There is so many unhappy people at Man United. Everyone is bemused as to how it has gone so wrong.

“They need a permanent manager in, someone who can get them playing football again. There is a lot of big decisions that need to be made.

“If you go by performances this season, you’d have to say Rashford needs a new challenge.

“I don’t think he’ll be allowed to do that though, not at least until a new manager has come in and had a chat with him.”
