‘Man United dealt Moise Kean setback as fresh contract update emerges’

Manchester United look set to miss out on another striker amid Ruben Amorim’s squad rebuild this summer.

Amorim wanted to reunite with Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres at Old Trafford, but the Swede looks set to join rivals Arsenal

Bryan Mbeumo has also been a top target for Amorim, but Brentford have stood firm on their valuation of the player and rejected two bids from United for their star player.

United have identified other targets including former Everton striker Moise Kean and free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Amorim’s only success in the market so far has been signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Major hurdle in Kean deal

United were exploring the possibility of activating Kean’s £45million release clause in his contract to solve their striker problems.

However, The Sun reports [July 9] Fiorentina want to fend off advances from United and any other interested clubs by offering Kean a new contract on improved terms to keep him in Italy.

The release clause in his contract will expire on July 15th, meaning United will now have to act fast if they want to complete a shock deal.

The 25-year-old joined Fiorentina in 2024 from Serie A rivals Juventus and has reignited his career at the club.

United need strategy and direction to seal striker deal

Football Insider Verdict

United are back to the drawing board in their pursuit of a new striker, should Kean accept Fiorentina’s new terms.

With four forwards all set to leave the club this summer, and Mason Mount linked with a move to Aston Villa, Amorim is short of goal scorers in his squad.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have both failed to impress and make the position their own and their scoring record leaves a lot to be desired.

Amorim needs a reliable scorer, which Kean has become in Italy, to fire his side up the table following their disastrous 15th placed finish last season.

Kean didn’t impress in his spell at Everton, scoring just four goals in 39 appearances for the Toffees.

It was revealed that United are looking for a new Head of Senior Recruitment in the middle of the transfer window and one of their first jobs will be to sort out their strategy over brining a new forward to the club.
