Man United defender Brandon Williams ‘looking over his shoulder’ after Sky transfer update – pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Man United defender Brandon Williams “will be looking over his shoulder” at the imminent signing of Tyrell Malacia.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the “very, very good” Malacia “will provide competition” at Old Trafford.

As reported by Sky Sports (4 July), the Red Devils are on the verge of completing the £13million signing of Malacia, 22, from Feyenoord.

The left-back was at Carrington on Monday for the second part of his medical with the club.

The package is said to be worth an initial £13million, with a further £1.7million in add-ons.

When asked by Football Insider if Malacia’s arrival would have consequences for other players, Robinson said: “I think Brandon Williams will be looking over his shoulder at that signing.

“Luke Shaw has had his injury problems.

“Erik ten Hag is exploiting the Dutch market. He knows the league.

“I covered a lot of the Eridivisie last year for a broadcaster and I was impressed. There is a lot of talent in that league. It is about finding the right players for the right price.

“Malacia is a very, very good player. He will provide competition for Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

Man United

“All can play in the wing-back position or as a left-back in a four. It gives the manager another opportunity to add competition for places.

“It is a work in progress. They need players.”
