Man United see Cox as ‘key leader’ but Everton move ‘too good to turn down’

Manchester United academy director Nick Cox is set to join Everton as the Toffees’ new technical director.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Cox has agreed a deal with Everton and will join the Merseyside club next week.

Throughout his time with the Man United academy, the 47-year-old has worked alongside the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Amass.

The former earned himself a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad, epitomising the positive work done by Cox at Old Trafford.

Cox is ready to join Everton from Man United

Everton are keen to lay strong foundations in place ahead of their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, while Cox is set to become their latest arrival.

According to The Athletic [18 June], the 47-year-old was named as a “key leader” in an all-staff email at Old Trafford.

However, Cox views the opportunity of working alongside Moyes under the Toffees’ new ownership as one that is “too good to turn down”.

Cox appointment another positive step forwards for Everton

Football Insider verdict

Before The Friedkin Group completed their takeover of Everton last December, the Toffees found themselves locked in a relegation battle under former boss Sean Dyche.

However, after returning to Goodison Park in January, Moyes steered the Blues to a comfortable mid-table finish, and the Merseyside outfit can now look forward to laying solid foundations for the future.

Everton appointed Angus Kinnear as their new CEO after he left Leeds, proving The Friedkin Group’s appetite to make positive changes in the North West.

Cox’s imminent arrival symbolises yet another step in the right direction, while his experience in the Man United academy shows that he is ready to oversee first-team matters with the Toffees.

Meanwhile, after steering the Blues to three consecutive wins at the end of the Premier League season, Moyes has proven that he could be the man to help Everton land a top-half spot in the top flight for the first time since 2021.

Elsewhere, Moyes’ men have been tipped to make a big-money offer for Kyle Walker in a Goodison News exclusive.
