Man United Exclusive: Erik ten Hag ‘one defeat away from sack crisis’
Erik ten Hag is “one defeat away” from a crisis at Man United as pressure continues to grow on his job, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke shared that since the decision to extend his contract in the summer, the boss had faced intense pressure on his position.
As seen following the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford, the narrative surrounding Ten Hag can quickly turn toxic following a defeat.
However, huge wins against Southampton and Barnsley have inspired a positive mood at United and the boss is hoping to continue their strong form in the Premier League.
United face a favourable run in their upcoming games with a trip to Crystal Palace and the visit of FC Twente in the Europa League.
However, those games are followed by clashes with Tottenham, Porto and Aston Villa, where a poor run would see intense pressure piled back on Ten Hag.
Sources say the board are keen to stick by their man as they did in the summer, but a poor run of form could force their hand.
Erik ten Hag faces Man United sack amid growing pressure
Ten Hag had been widely expected to leave Man United at the end of last season but for a shock FA Cup victory against Man City which saw a late twist in his fate.
However, many supporters at Old Trafford feel he should have lost his job, and have continued their calls for his head this season.
United have taken six points from their opening four Premier League games this season with wins against Fulham and Southampton, after defeats against Brighton and Liverpool.
As a result, pressure is continuing to build on Ten Hag’s position, and he will be hoping to build upon the 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley with a strong run of form.

However, defeats in any of their next five games will lead to further pressure from the crowd at Old Trafford and questions will continue to arise.
If United are on course to match last season’s eighth-placed finish, the board could be forced to make a change, with their goal to reach Champions League qualification.
