Man United face ‘dressing room’ backlash amid new transfer claim – pundit
Noel Whelan has raised fears Erik ten Hag could create a toxic dressing room at Man United with a “ruthless” clearout on the cards.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted there needs to be a change of “culture” among the squad at Old Trafford.
The Mirror (21 April) claim as many as 12 players could leave United this summer, with six of those out of contract.

As revealed by Football Insider in March, Marcus Rashford has let it be known he wants to leave, while club chiefs expect Cristiano Ronaldo to leave as well.
Whelan insisted there needs to be an overhaul among the playing squad this summer.
However, he warned unwanted players could end up remaining at Old Trafford and cause “animosity” for Ten Hag.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Ten Hag will have an idea when he gets in there. He’ll take the experience from Ralf Rangnick, who’s been there, and take his word on players that he doesn’t think need to be at the club.
“I think he’ll be quite ruthless on that. He will want to get these players out the door as quickly as possible. If there’s an opening and a club wants them, fantastic. There might not be.
“Then you have another problem where you’ve got big-name players that are not included in the club or the squad. You don’t need that kind of animosity around the training ground.
“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. I’m not just talking training ground. I mean the whole culture of the club needs to change.

“Get out the players that aren’t going to be the ones that are going to change the characteristics about the team.
“That’s what it is right now. I think it’s the characters that you’ve got in the changing room. They’re very soft mentally. They’ve got no idea of how to play as a team. They’re very individual.”
