Man United facing ‘real blow’ after journalist’s Frenkie de Jong update – pundit
Alex McLeish has claimed it would be a “real blow” to Man United if Frenkie de Jong chooses to move to Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider the former Aston Villa manager said it seems like De Jong would prefer a move to London instead of Manchester.
According to journalist David Ornstein, reported in The Athletic (3 August), Chelsea are holding talks with Barcelona over a potential move for the 25-year-old.
Man United had previously reached an agreement with the Spanish side worth around £70million for the midfielder.
The Netherlands international is yet to make a decision about where his future lies.
When asked if it will be disappointing for United if De Jong chooses the Blues, McLeish told Football Insider: “It’s definitely a blow if he decides to go to Chelsea.
“Let’s face it, it was always in the news, we heard about it every day, we were all privy to the deal going one way or the other.
“For one of your great rivals to come in at the last minute, at the 11th hour and take him away from your clutches, that will be a real blow to United.
“Frenkie de Jong, by the sound of things, would love a London move.“

De Jong made 45 appearances for the La Liga club across all competitions last season.
During those outings he scored four goals and provided five assists.
