Man United fans destroy ‘stupid’ Ruben Amorim after ‘awful’ Brentford blow

Man United fans have exploded at Ruben Amorim after Matthijs de Ligt picked up another injury during their clash against Brentford.

Amorim’s side fell to a 4-3 defeat after a Luke Shaw own-goal and a header from Kevin Schade overturned Mason Mount’s opening goal to sent the hosts into half-time with the lead.

The second half saw Schade notch his second of the game, while Yoanne Wissa put the nail in the coffin for United, meaning Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo’s goals were not enough to rescue a point.

However, the main talking point from the game centred around De Ligt’s injury after he limped off and was replaced by Harry Maguire after 35 minutes.

The centre-back returned to the starting XI for the first time since the start of April at the Gtech Community Stadium – leading to suggestions he had been rushed back.

With a crucial Europa League semi-final second leg against Athletic Bilbao and a potential final on the horizon, fans have labelled Amorim “stupid” for risking a key player.

Ruben Amorim facing pressure at Man United

Amorim has faced increasing pressure at Old Trafford since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November, with his side dropping to 15th in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that “serious questions” have been asked of Amorim in the wake of recent results.

His inability to adapt his style to better suit his players has led to growing frustrations, while they have now gone five games without a win in the league.

However, Football Insider revealed on 12 April that Amorim is unlikely to be sacked by United at the end of the season despite the frustrations.

With crucial Europa League games coming before the end of the month, Amorim opted to rotate his side to face Brentford, but starting De Ligt has been labelled an oversight.

The centre-back, alongside Harry Maguire who replaced him against Brentford, is seen as a key part of their defensive unit and his return was set to provide a huge boost.

Instead, the travelling United supporters have been left raging at Amorim as they branded him “criminal” and “stupid”, while De Ligt could miss “the rest of the season”.
