Man United fans explode at ‘liability’ Andre Onana as footage drops v Fulham

Man United fans have exploded at Andre Onana after his performance during their FA Cup defeat against Fulham at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim’s side fell to a defeat on penalties at home after Calvin Bassey put the visitors ahead after heading home from a corner shortly before half-time.

The second half saw Bruno Fernandes drag United back into the game with an excellent finish from inside the box, before the game went to extra time and eventually penalties.

Onana made two vital saves to deny Emile Smith Rowe in the second half and keep United in the game – but it was not enough to impress sections of the support.

However, many of the fans at Old Trafford were frustrated by his display as he failed to give confidence to their defensive line and failed to save a single penalty while Bernd Leno saved two.

This was highlighted in footage from the game where a miscommunication with Harry Maguire led to the shot-stopper spilling the ball inside the box, but he was eventually able to recover.

Amorim’s decision to start the 28-year-old goalkeeper ahead of Altay Bayindir in the cup led to plenty of anger before the game, which was then justified on the pitch.

Bayindir’s heroics had been saluted by United players and fans following the penalty shootout win against Arsenal in the third round – but he has not played since.

Fans have questioned the manager’s decisions as a result, while Onana remains the subject of many supporters’ complaints almost every time he plays.

Man United staff ‘concerned’ about Andre Onana

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 26 February that United are concerned about Onana and his performances so far this season.

“Serious questions” are said to have been asked of the goalkeeper, but the club are reluctant to sign a replacement this summer given the money spent on his signing from Inter Milan.

Onana arrived at Old Trafford as the replacement for David de Gea in 2023, as United coughed up £47.2million in an effort to establish a long-term option in goal.

However, he has regularly failed to leave a positive impression on games and remains a source of frustration and concerns for both staff and supporters at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana slammed by fans after what he did v Fulham

The goalkeeper has been frequently criticised by supporters this season, as they previously labelled Onana a “disaster” v Ipswich following a calamitous mistake.

He has failed to provide stability in United’s back line and remains a talking point within sections of the Old Trafford support amid questions about his long-term future at the club.

Taking to social media following their FA Cup defeat to Fulham, supporters expressed their frustrations yet again as Onana was labelled a “liability” and Amorim was heavily questioned.
