Man United fans: Martinez ‘out for months’ after ‘heartbreaking’ injury blow

Man United fans are fearing Lisandro Martinez will be ruled out for “months” after the injury he sustained during the clash with Crystal Palace.

Ruben Amorim’s side fell to a frustrating 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford courtesy of two second-half goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Supporters were left raging at Harry Maguire as a result of his role in the first goal when he was caught ball-watching as Maxence Lacroix’s header rebounded off the bar.

However, it was his centre-back partner Martinez at the focus of most fans’ concerns following the game after he was stretchered off with a knee injury.

The 27-year-old was beaten to the ball by Ismaila Sarr, but seemed to twist his knee after catching his studs in the turf and immediately signalled to be taken off.

A break in play allowed the United physios to strap up his knee before bringing him off on a stretcher, where replays showed he was visibly devastated.

The injury will also come as a huge blow to Amorim, who has now lost another key player to injury and will be forced to change his defensive line once more.

Martinez has been sidelined with serious blows multiple times at United, missing a total of 56 games across just four injuries since the 2022-23 season.

Now, fans are fearing he may have damaged his cruciate ligament, which would likely see him ruled out for the remainder of the current season and into the next.

Taking to social media during the game, fans described the blow as “gutting” and “heartbreaking” as many speculated over the length of time he would miss.
