Kieran Maguire: The Glazers ‘won’t be happy’ behind the scenes as Man United fans take action

The 1958 Man United fan group will increase pressure and scrutiny on the Glazers if they continue to stage well-publicised protests.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the American family’s ownership of the Red Devils.

As relayed by The Guardian, about 1,000 members of the 1958 group staged a protest ahead of last Saturday’s (16 April) 3-2 win over Norwich City.

Protesters marched on Old Trafford ahead of the clash and entered 17 minutes into the match, one minute for every year of the Glazers’ tenure.

There is dissatisfaction among match-going fans about a perceived lack of engagement and investment in infrastructure.

Maguire told the 1858 group to turn the heat up on the Glazers through further demonstrations.

“I think it’s a case of raising the profile in terms of the poor performance of United under the Glazers,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Sir Alex clearly dug United out of a hole with his talent, but since then they haven’t been able to get anywhere near those levels.

“It keeps the pressure on. There has been only tokenism from the board since Super League about fan representation.

“It won’t change a huge amount because the Glazers aren’t going to be there, but they won’t like it.

“The best way they can express their dissatisfaction is through putting pressure on sponsors.

“It’s essential that 1958 go down the route of non-violent direct and indirect action.

“If they do it smartly, they’ll generate positive publicity and it will increase scrutiny on the club.”

Man United

United are currently 5th in the Premier League, three points outside the top four with six games left to play.
