Man United forward Antony is ‘crying to his agent’ after ‘astonishing’ development – pundit

Man United should “get rid” of Antony following his lacklustre season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie suggested that the Brazilian has been “crying to his agent” for game time, which has put pressure on the club to persist with playing the under performer.

The 24-year-old has yet to meet the lofty expectations of Man United fans since his staggering £85million move from Ajax in 2022.

Across 72 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, he has managed just nine goals and four assists and, as revealed by Football Insider, United are planning on sell him this summer for less than half of what they paid.

That would be an astonishing loss of more than £40million.

Man United plan to accept £40m Antony offer

This season, he has yet to score in the Premier League and his only goal contributions, a goal and an assist, came in United’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against League Two Newport County.

McAvennie urged the club to cut their losses and let Antony depart the club while also predicting that Erik ten Hag, a staunch defender of his signing, will exit at the end of the season.

“Ten Hag brought Antony in and I don’t know what’s happened to him,” he told Football Insider.

“Oh, my God. On the flight over from Ajax, he must have lost his confidence!

“If you’re spending £80million on a player like that, you expect much better than what we’ve got.

“At a club like Man United, you have to be doing it every game.

“I don’t know what the matter is with managers now – they don’t tell players that they can’t play.

“It’s as if they go crying to their agents or something.

“So what? Get rid of them then.

“I don’t think ten Hag will be there at the end of the season. He’s got too many excuses.”
