Kieran Maguire: Man United have just banked £5m-plus amid news from Singapore

Man United are showing signs of attempts to revitalise “flatlining commercial income” and will likely bank at least £5million over the course of their new deal with Doo Group.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ global partnership with the online trading platform.

United announced last Tuesday (3 January) that they had signed what was described as a “multi-year deal” with the Singapore-based company.

The agreement, to which now value has been ascribed, has been widely reported elsewhere as lasting five years.

Maguire suggests that the partnership is likely to net United a seven-figure sum annually.

If you want a partnership with a club that claims to have 1.1billion followers in the world, you have to be prepared to pay the appropriate rate for this,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I would anticipate that the Doo Group are paying a seven-figure annual sum for their relationship with Man United, especially if they are one of the more senior partners.

United have suffered from flatlining in commercial income in the course of recent years.

“That appears to go against the grain in terms of what former chief executive Ed Woodward used to say in not needing to be successful on the pitch to be successful commercially.

This does indicate that the club is trying to expand its existing portfolio of commercial partners. Clearly, it will be trying to extract maximum value from this particular relationship.
