Man United have Scott McTominay ‘problem’ after latest bid – Borson

Manchester United have a decision to make over Scott McTominay after so far failing to receive any bids close to his asking price.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider United are currently running the risk of not being able to sell McTominay despite him not being part of Erik ten Hag’s plans.

The Premier League giants are believed to be looking for at least £40million to consider selling the Scotland international before the 30 August transfer deadline.

But The Times reported on 6 August Fulham have now cooled their interest in McTominay after seeing a £20million bid rejected.

The 27-year-old came on as a second-half substitute in United’s penalty-shootout defeat to Man City in the Community Shield on 10 August.

Borson suggested the Old Trafford hierarchy now has a decision to make on the midfielder’s future ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign.

“Sometimes you are just not going to agree the fee you want,” Borson told Football Insider.

“They have got that problem at the moment it seems with McTominay, where they want £40million and the best bid in the market is £20million.

“They have got a choice. You can hold your position and say ‘We think the player is worth £40million’ and not sell him.

“But then you risk having a player on your books in September when you don’t want him.

“It’s just the commercial reality.”
