Man United ‘have the financial capabilities’ to force Nottingham Forest into Morgan Gibbs-White sale

Morgan Gibbs-White is could make a big-money move away from Nottingham Forest this summer with Man United and Man City interested.

The two Manchester rivals are both in need of midfield reinforcements, and have set their sights on the 26-year-old as one of their leading targets.

Nottingham Forest were successful in blocking the England international from joining Tottenham last summer, but may struggle to replicate that this year.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that a number of “top clubs” are keeping close tabs on Gibbs-White ahead of the transfer window.

While they remain determined to keep the midfielder as with any of their best players, Nottingham Forest could be tempted to sell ahead of what will be a busy summer.

Which clubs are interested in signing Morgan Gibbs-White?

Football Insider revealed earlier this year that Man City are keeping tabs on Gibbs-White and could make a move to lure him away from the City Ground.

After his hattrick in the 4-1 win against Burnley last time out, a number of top clubs are being linked with a move for the England international’s signature.

It may prove difficult for Forest to keep hold of him as a result, with big money set to be tabled in an attempt to force them to reconsider their stance.

“There’s always going to be interest in a player like Gibbs-White,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He offers so much to that Nottingham Forest team that he’s bound to catch the eye of other clubs, and there are a few having a look at him now.

“Look around the Premier League and abroad as well, there are a number of clubs in need of a midfielder, including Man United and Man City.

“Both of them will be well aware of Gibbs-White and have the financial capabilities to make a move, so they will hope they can tempt Forest into a deal.

“It might not be as easy as that because Marinakis won’t want to let him go, but when there’s a high level of interest in a player, they might be tempted for the right price.

“It’s not just those two either, there are a lot of top clubs looking at Gibbs-White, so it could be difficult for Forest to keep hold of him.”

How do Nottingham Forest feel about losing Gibbs-White?

Despite the growing interest in the midfielder, Nottingham Forest are extremely reluctant to lose any of their best players ahead of the summer transfer window.

Brown told Football Insider on 21 April that Forest will do everything to keep Gibbs-White beyond the end of the season, as he remains a crucial part of their plans.

Evangelos Marinakis made huge efforts to keep him at the club last summer with the offer of a bumper new contract, and is hoping to block his exit again.

Gibbs-White is not the only player being linked with a move away, meanwhile, as Elliot Anderson continues to be at the centre of much speculation.

Both United and City are also keeping an eye on his situation in case a move becomes available, but as with Gibbs-White, it will need to be at the right price.
