‘Man United hit by transfer blow as cut-price Antony deal now on the cards’

Manchester United are set to make a major loss on Antony as he prepares to leave Old Trafford permanently this summer.

The Brazil international joined the Premier League side in an £86million deal back in 2022, linking up with former boss Erik ten Hag, who he played under at Ajax.

The 25-year-old was a standout player during his final year with the Dutch side, registering 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances to help them claim the Eredivisie title.

Antony enjoyed a strong start to life at Man United after scoring in each of his first three Premier League outings.

However, the winger only went on to score one more top-flight goal across the 2022-23 campaign after picking up a couple of injuries and suffering a drop in form.

Antony registered eight goals and three assists in 44 outings during that season, but in the two years that have followed, he’s recorded just four goals and two assists in 52 appearances for United.

Man United make Antony U-turn decision

Following Ten Hag’s departure in October, Antony fell further down the United pecking order under Ruben Amorim

Antony joined Real Betis on loan in the January transfer window in a bid to revive his career.

The winger has gone on to register nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances for the La Liga side, with many questioning whether the door could be open for him at Old Trafford next season.

However, Football Insider revealed on 6 May United will not give Antony another chance and will look to cash in on him this summer.

The Manchester giants are believed to be looking for a fee upwards of £30million for the attacker, who is under contract until June 2027.

Antony was provided with a huge opportunity to showcase his talents and potentially boost his value in Betis’ Conference League final against Chelsea on Wednesday (28 May).

But the Brazilian put in a poor performance as the Seville-based side were beaten 4-1 by their Premier League opponents.

Antony could have also been sent off in the closing stages of the game following an attempted headbutt on Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez.

Man United to miss out on big Antony fee

United would have been hoping for a strong performance from Antony to potentially drum up some more interest from clubs in his services this summer.

However, that wasn’t the case and they could now have to slash their asking price even further for their second-most expensive signing.

Amorim’s side need all the cash they can get this summer after missing out on the riches of the Champions League following their Europa League final defeat against Tottenham.

United will not be playing in any European competition next season after finishing 15th in the Premier League table.
