Man United hit ‘peak embarrassment’ and are ‘clinging onto the past’ after latest news emerges

Man United fans have been left fuming by a huge decision the club have made during the international break.

Ruben Amorim faces pressure at Man United following a mixed start to the new campaign which leaves the Red Devils 10th in the Premier League table.

Man United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland was important for Amorim, with summer arrival Senne Lammens making his debut for the club.

Benjamin Sesko scored his first Old Trafford in that victory, and Amorim is keen to rebuild the squad, but fans believe the wrong approach is being taken with the latest news.

Man United supporters rage at Harry Maguire contract news

Harry Maguire is in the final year of his Man United contract after the club triggered a one-year extension on his deal in January.

The 32-year-old has only started two matches for Man United this season, including the defeat at League Two Grimsby in the League Cup.

Now, as per Fabrizio Romano on X [9 October], Maguire is in talks with Man United over a new deal at the club.

Red Devil supporters have been left bemused by the news with only fan posting on social media: “It will just delay the progress. Giving Maguire a new deal at 32 is madness. Unacceptable.

What’s the point of change if we’re stick to the old material? Make it make sense,” one fan asked.

Another supporter also questioned the decision: “Maguire in 2026 really? What is wrong with this club?

A Man United fan believes Maguire needs to leave for the club to progress on the field: “Surprising move. He’s been solid lately but still think we need to upgrade that position if we want to compete for titles.

Another supported agreed Maguire needs to depart: “This is the reason why Manchester football club won’t be back on top of world football anytime soon! Like come on man Maguire is not good enough never was his contract expiring let him go! He’s 32yrs old he’s on the decline.”

Whilst one support believes the move shows no ambition at the club: “Whyyyyyy???? This club clearly wants to stew in mediocrity. Ridiculous.”

Maguire holding back Man Untied rebuild

Amorim continued his rebuild of the Man United squad during the summer, but the Portuguese boss did not sign a new centre-back, instead focusing on bolstering his attack.

Maguire vastly contributes from the bench under Amorim, and is low down the pecking order, but his leadership off the pitch must be useful for the club to offer him a new contract.

Progression on the pitch though would surely mean letting go of the centre-back, with Lisandro Martinez set to return from a long-term injury by the end of the year.

Maguire has been at Old Trafford for six years, and if Amorim is serious about getting Man United back to the top then he must sell the defender.
